Baseball has been very advanced in its use of statistical analysis over the years. Sabermetrics as we mentioned and folks like Bill James and general managers like the Boston Red Sox Theo Epstien have been early proponents of leveraging statistical analysis to win. This is a really interesting use of metrics for the NBA, we wonder if over time it will get the notice and attention that baseball statistics garner. If nothing else, the uses of analysis outside of the data center are something to recognize. As the author points out, “The demand for people capable of generating numbers – and, more importantly, making sense of them – only figures to grow.”
With the Winter Olympics just ending we can’t help but think how analytics can help out our new favorite sport – curling.
