Last week, Gartner released their 2011 Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence and moved “ease of use” past “functionality” as the primary reason for choosing a particular BI platform. Another key finding of this report is that business users are “driving BI purchasing decisions,” and they are turning to “easier to use data discovery tools over traditional BI platforms.” And, they aren’t always involving IT. In fact, Timo Elliot tweeted from the 2011 Gartner Business Intelligence Summit that the real opportunity for “Predictive Analytics” is ease of use.
Prepared for a Cultural Change as an MQ Challenger
Gartner leverages survey data as one input to help determine which vendors end up in its leaders, challengers, niche challengers and visionaries quadrants. This year, the survey reveals that data discovery is becoming an increasing important driver. Getting data into the hands of end users and their ability to “model, navigate and visualize” is causing a cultural change for both platform users and the vendors themselves.
So, where does Spotfire fall in the Magic Quadrant? Spotfire moved up in the “challengers” block of the quadrant and continues to be recognized by Gartner as a leading solution and among the easiest to use products in the industry. We’re happy to say that we’re meeting the number one requirement of business users.
Flexible, Ease of Use – Spotfire’s “Sweet Spot”
But, it doesn’t stop with ease of use. Gartner calls Spotfire “a flexible and easy-to-use data discovery platform based on a unique in-memory architecture and authoring environment for building and using highly interactive applications and dashboards.”
In addition, the survey respondents ranked our functionality among the best in the business for predictive analytics, interactive visualization, ad hoc queries and analytic dashboards. Their main use case for the product is “moderate and complex ad hoc analysis.” And, Gartner says this allows “more users to leverage the benefits of analytics.”
In addition, the analysts said Spotfire’s “true sweet spot is in providing a flexible, easy-to-use environment.”
Our Vision – Locked and Loaded on Mobile/Social BI
One of the keys to getting into the Magic Quadrant challengers category is product vision. According to the report, our “strong product vision is a key strength” because we focus on providing users advanced, real-time analytics via apps and dashboards on nearly every platform such as mobile phones and the iPad. In fact, Gartner references Spotfire as having one of the most comprehensive product visions in the industry.
Data Discovery Integrations Set Spotfire Apart
Gartner says that unlike other platforms in our category, we are leveraging data mining as well as integration with core Tibco integration capabilities to broaden interactive analysis that is driven by end-users. The result of this approach? Our users can incorporate real-time data, statistics and predictions for true “what if” analysis.
Customers + Other Companies = Satisfaction Across a Board
We love our customers and establish strong relationships with them and our vendors to deliver the best all-around product. And, we’d like to thank Gartner respondents for rating us among the highest in “support, customer experience, performance, positive view of vendor’s future, vendor success, overall product functionality, sales experience and achievement of business benefits.”
We’re ready to move from the challengers to leaders block next year. Share your comments on how we can get there and to subscribe to our blog to stay informed on industry news and data analytics topics.
