Distinction between shared disk location and library

What is the distinction (perhaps correlation?) between the shared disk location referred to in section 5.10 of the TIBCO Spotfire Server 3.1 Installation and Configuration manual and the Spotfire Library described in section 3.9 of the TIBCO Spotfire 3.1 Deployment and Administration manual?

Are the locations / directory the same?  When a user stores an analysis, does it first need to be saved (uploaded) into the shared disk location and then a library admin would import it into the library?

I guess I'm trying to figure out if a typical user would need to be able to write to the shared disk location?  Please advise.

     Thanks,

    Bill

    Bill,
Those are not the same. The shared disk location described in section 5.10 is only for importing content that had been previously exported (as would be needed when moving content from a dev to production server, for example). A typical user does not need write access to the shared disk location.

When a user publishes an analysis to the Library, it is immediately available to others provided the security permissions allow this. (section 3.9) An administrator does not need to perform an upload or any other action to make a user's analysis available in the Library.

    Dave,

Thank you very much for helping to clear that up for me. I have one last follow-up question. When a Library Administer creates a folder for the Spotfire Library, does this create an actual directory on the system where the Spotfire Library resides?

No problem! When the folder is created in the Library, it doesn't actually create anything on the disc. It only inserts\updates rows in the Spotfire database.

    Dave,

Thanks again, I certainly appreciate the help.  This information will help in planning for the installation.
